Soon
after arriving in 1997, Glenda Smith, fresh out of the University of
Texas with a doctorate in music performance, set out to make her mark
as a top call freelance trumpeter in Los Angeles. She soon established
an impeccable reputation as a performer on all size trumpets and in
every genre from classical to pop and jazz. She regularly appears with
Satin Brass, a brass quartet whose repertoire covers everything from
classical to light jazz, and Boomerang, the ultimate Motown, Rock and
Soul Band featuring an all-female horn section. Here she hones her chops
between recording gigs with such notables as World Radio and the big
bands of DIVA,
George Graham, John Daversa, Pat Longo, and the UT
Jazz Orchestra just to name a few. She has also appeared
at the 2002 Emmy Awards, a recording session on Spiderman 2, and season
1 and 2 of American Idol. One of her most noteworthy achievements is
the co-founding of DekaJaz,
an eclectic jazz "tentet" focused on performing the best in
original progressive jazz with some of the most talented performers
and composers in the country.
Ms.
Smith is also committed to music education. She is currently on the
adjunct staff of East LA College where she enjoys teaching music theory
and music appreciation and is dedicated to expressing to all people
the importance of music through teaching and performance as an artist/clinician.
